Information Literacy: Applied study on academic community at the University of Dammam

Abstract

of graduate studies at the University of Dammam students, and to provide a clear
view of its nature and identify the person, and the study of its level in society
Academic Select manifestations and skills of the students, to identify research the
difficulties they face when searching for information and the definition of trends
and the role of the library academic at the University of Dammam - splitting the
students - to support and develop information literacy among researchers.
It has been used the survey method to obtain the data and information
that identifies the skills and aspects of consciousness information literacy among
graduate students through a questionnaire distributed to a random sample of
master's and doctoral two phases of students in the College of Education
(Dammam) by (45.5) % and in the College of Architecture and Planning at (35) %
of the total number of students. There is the analysis of data by the statistical
program (SPSS). Also used the case study method to determine the activities
and services for the development of information literacy in academic Library
splitting the students depending on the personal interview with the Dean and Vice
Deanship of Library Affairs.
The study showed the availability of skill need of information and skill
assessment and use of information clearly among graduate students in the
kidneys of the study sample. While the majority of students lack the back office
and research and technological skills. As it turns out that the more the difficulties
facing the researchers focused on the sources of information and methods of use
and the use of the library, its services and its potential which requires the need to
develop standardized programs for the education of students on a sound
scientific basis.
