Abstract

The current paper handles the role of the broker of books in selling and purchasing books for Muslims. As brokerage of books was one of the uncommon professions which constituted the movement of selling and purchasing books, the paper had to begin with showing the linguistic and idiomatic concept of book's brokerage to clarify its reasons and purposes. Many people have taken book's brokerage as their profession whether they were scholars or others. The paper also explores the role of book's brokerage as a profession that spread in markets of books. Moreover, the present study investigates the extent to which Muslims are interested in gathering and buying books so that they can visit frequently book markets to search for and buy books they want. These markets were like cultural and intellectual forums. Accordingly, the paper shows the motives of people to go frequently to these markets as there is a big difference between the authors and those who want to buy books to form their own libraries concerning the motives of going to book markets .
Because there are certain faculties and abilities dedicated to any profession, the current paper studies the qualifications and faculties that must be available in the character of the book's broker and that enable him or her to know the visitor's purposes to go to book markets. Moreover, this paper explores the places where the book's broker used to practice his job. To show his books, the broker used to go to places where people were gathered whether in book markets or other occasions. He or she might be hired by someone to call for a certain book. Even in his or her house, the broker sells and buys books. The current study also investigates the tools and means used by the broker to propagate his books.
