YouTube channels of Arab institutions and professional associations in the field of Libraries and information: A descriptive and analytical study

Abstract

The study aimed to highlight the role of YouTube channels of Arab professional federations and associations in the field of libraries and information, by displaying the numerical and qualitative features of these channels, and analyzing the features of the objective content of the video files available on the channels. And to find out whether the video files available on YouTube channels contribute to supporting self-learning and raising followers’ cognitive awareness about the specialty or not, in addition to highlighting the challenges facing professional unions and associations for expansion and development. Finally, the researcher presented a proposal for a set of mechanisms for investing in the channels’ content educationally and financially. In a way that achieves sustainable development for the parent institution and the specialty, The study relied on the descriptive analytical approach, in addition to using the content analysis method, from the beginning of the channel’s inception on the YouTube platform until 12/31/2022. The study reached several results, the most prominent of which is that the Arab Federation of Libraries (Alam) is considered the most keen institution and association to be present. on more than one social media platform, especially the most widely used, effective and famous platforms. The number of video files available during 2022 in the Egyptian Association for Libraries, Information and Archives also topped first place, amounting to 37 videos, in addition to the fact that all seminars available in the channels of the study sample fall at the heart of Specialization.
