Areas of change and transformation in Arab academic libraries in the fourth industrial revolution era: Prospective study

Abstract

The study aims to prospect the changes in the Arabian academic libraries under the impact of the 4th revolution era, during the next ten years, spotted the challenges faces these libraries through this transformation. To underpin these libraries through this transformation, the study provides proposals to overcome any difficulties.
To aspect this future vision, the study reckoned on the Delphi method, collecting aspirations from a specific sample from Arabian expertise, on a two-round survey.
The study emerged that there will be significant changes in the academic libraries, especially on the working model, changes in services spawning new innovative services that will enhance creativity and knowledge sharing. This will affect the jobs changing, the task's style done by librarians. This will also affect the information resource types, behavior on consuming the information. According to this study, there will be a redesign to libraries' buildings, resizing their interior spaces.
The study anticipated a future scenario to this change in the Arabian academic libraries refers to that will be differences in this digital transformation, partly in some tasks and services. The study also stated that those changes will be different in degrees from country to country and form library to other, according to its accurate response to those changes.
According to this, the study recommended some suggestions, highlighting the necessity of being prepared to well manage these changes through designing smart strategies, that enable these libraries to cope with the technology of the 4th revolution era.
