Data journals and their role in promoting the dissemination, sharing and reuse of data: an exploratory analytical study

Abstract

Data journals are a class of peer-reviewed journals based on the publication and availability of data sheets. A data paper is a scientific document that describes a previously published dataset. It is a searchable metadata document that describes a particular dataset or set of datasets published in the form of an article. Unlike a traditional article, the primary purpose of a data paper is to describe the data and the conditions for its collection. , rather than reporting hypotheses and conclusions.
The current study aimed to explore this category of periodicals, their characteristics, and their role in supporting the processes of publishing and sharing data. For this purpose,
To analyze the effectiveness of data journals as a means to enhance and support the dissemination, sharing and reuse of data, the study analyzed analytically a set of issues such as publishing policies for pure journals, mechanisms for citation and citation from data sheets, mechanisms and methodologies for scientific arbitration, costs and procedures for open access, and the study concluded that there are no common templates or policies Data journals are unified, and the matter is subject to the practices of each publisher according to the nature of the journal’s subject area. The study recommended the need to support and introduce data journals and to provide initiatives for common policies and practices to publish make available and accept data journals in different scientific communities.
