Arab National Platforms and Portals for publishing Academic journals and its availability on the web

Abstract

Academic journals are one of the most important tools of Academic publishing, through these journals the outputs of scientific research are shared in the academic community, and despite of the technological developments that these journals have passed in their publishing and availability, the locally published journals lack impact on the international academic community.
Some Arab countries have developed platforms for publishing refereed Academic journals that are issued by their universities and research institutions. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluate platforms and portals for publishing Academic journals Depending on Descriptive analytical method. The study revealed some results, the most important of these results are:
• The creation of platforms and portals for gathering Academic journals and making them available has received a considerable interest of the developing countries, as many projects have appeared that have supported this trend.
• There is a clear lack of projects for national platforms for Academic journals in the Arab countries, despite the importance of developing them, the study monitored only four platforms in all Arab countries.
• All platforms were easy to use, browse, and retrieve results from them.
• The use of specialized Journal management systems had a great impact on the performance of tasks in the platforms which are the subject of the current study, and guarantee its services.
• The Egyptian Journals platform came first and the scientific portal for Moroccan journals came second, then the Algerian scientific journals platform came third, while the Iraqi academic journals platform ranked last.
