Abstract

Scientific publishing is one of the main pillars in the progress and
development of scientific research, and in strengthening the bonds of scientific
communication between researchers. It works to publish and circulate the results
of scientific research, which helps to advance the wheel of scientific research at
an accelerated pace, which in turn leads to the progress of science, and scientific
publishing is the cornerstone on which the scientific entity is determined, and the
academic standing of the researcher and the university alike, especially After the
huge boom in the field of scientific publishing, thanks to modern technologies that
internationalized scientific publishing, after scientific journals were indexed in
global citation databases; So the researcher who publishes in one of the
periodicals exposed in these bases - such as the Clarivate analysis base or the
Scopus base - and it has a high impact factor is considered a distinguished
researcher with the distinction of his scientific level, and even raises the level of
the university to which he belongs. In light of these great developments, and the
competition between database service providers and publishers, tools have
emerged that evaluate scientific journals in different ways and methods, the most
famous of which was the emergence of citation databases, which provide them
with the ability to evaluate scientific journals according to the number of reference
citations for each journal.
The current study attempts to measure the extent to which Arab researchers
actually benefit in the field of libraries and information from the specialized
periodicals disclosed in the international citation databases under study and
analysis. The subject of the study and monitoring the characteristics and patterns
of authorship in it, in addition to making the numerical, linguistic, qualitative and
temporal distributions of reference citations in the articles of these journals under
study. The study used the method of citation analysis in order to identify and
analyze the different characteristics and distributions of the articles of the journals
under study and the reference citations contained therein
