The future of library and information science education in light of the spread of distance learning environments: a prospective study using the Delphi method

Abstract

This study aims to foresee the future of library and information education
during the next ten years, following the covid-19 pandemic and the spread of
distance education environments; And the implications of that on the future of
library and information curriculum and teaching methods, as well as the
challenges that will face faculty members and students in the library and
information departments; To achieve this, the method was relied on Delphi,
where experts specializing in the field and others with educational technology
shared their expectations and opinions about the future of library and information
education, and this was done in two consecutive rounds. This study came out
with many results and recommendations that the researcher hopes will be of
benefit and help in improving and developing library and information education.
Through the results of the responses of the expert committee in Delphi tours
for the foresight of library and information science education, it was found that the
approval rate in the second round was high in all axes of the study of the future of
library and information science education. The most important statements that
received the highest evaluation according to the various axes and which affect
the future of library and information education were as follows:
