The awareness of the faculty members of the University of Menoufia of scientific plagiarism: Exploratory study

Abstract

Given the great importance of information technology today in all areas,
especially the use of the Internet because of its many facilities, a new type of
crime was violated that violates the sanctity and privacy of this information via the
Internet and they are what is known as scientific plagiarism, scientific theft, or
information piracy, and that is in The Arab scientific community witnessed the
spread of many unhealthy phenomena, the most prominent of which is the
scientific theft phenomenon of Arab intellectual production, which has become
one of the most dangerous negative phenomena experienced by university and
research societies and institutions in Egypt and the Arab world, and has even
become one of The ugliest crimes common in our current society. Which can
destroy the entire course of scientific research, and then had a clear impact on
the delay in the classification of Arab universities among the lists of the best
universities in the world.
In view of the seriousness of this phenomenon, which clarified the extent
of ignorance of some researchers about what they do, whether intentionally or
unintentionally, the researcher tried in the folds of this study to define what is
scientific plagiarism and the difference between it and scientific quotation, as well
as the definition of the program applied to detect scientific plagiarism at Menoufia
University, and the methods and means used for advertising and advertising The
program for detecting scientific plagiarism, and how to avoid falling into scientific
plagiarism, as well as the difficulties that researchers face when examining their
intellectual production to reveal and determine the percentage of scientific
citation, this researcher has prepared a questionnaire for researchers of all  
disciplines M. In Menoufia University, as well as through personal interviews and
direct observation, and the questionnaire was distributed to the study sample and
representative of all scientific disciplines for all job categories (graduate student,
teaching assistant, assistant teacher, teacher, assistant professor, professor),
which numbered about (100) researchers, The study reached a set of results, the
most important of which is that more than two-thirds of the study sample reported
their knowledge of the difference between quotation and plagiarism, and the
study also demonstrated the presence of statistically significant differences in the
scale of knowledge of the difference between plagiarism and quotation in
avoiding plagiarism in scientific research with a different degree, as reported (76)
Researcher) proportions Its percentage (76%) of the total sample size is that they
are fully aware of the permissible percentage in the process of scientific
quotation. This study recommended that the digital library unit in Menoufia
University should complete its role in spreading the culture of scientific quotation
and the scientific integrity and awareness of scientific plagiarism and its danger to
intellectual production Among the researchers at Menoufia University, the
university's digital library must also focus on the effective and pioneering role of
the workshops, whether combined or individually, as it provides a kind of
interaction between each of the process operators in the university's digital library
and the beneficiary community, through Offers for video and audio detection
